Spying on Kestrels! Presenter: Genelle Uhrig, M.Sc Location: Western Reserve Land Conservancy Headquarters 3850 Chagrin River Road, Moreland Hills, OH Hear from a young ecologist who received a grant from KBC’s Ohio Avian Project Initiative (OAPI) for her research on American Kestrels, a species of concern in Ohio. She’ll share images from inside nest boxes and share what she learned through her research. Join us at this lovely location deep in the Chagrin River valley. A bird walk in the area will precede Genelle's talk. |
Genelle Uhrig, M.Sc.,Director of Ecology at The Wilds in Cumberland, OH, is a Conservation Biologist with 8 years of experience in field ecology and conservation genetics. She specializes in non-invasive genetic studies utilizing scat and environmental DNA (eDNA) for species and individual ID, and parentage analyses. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University and a Master of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Ms. Uhrig has worked with a variety of aquatic and terrestrial wildlife species and currently works with native species reintroduction efforts at The Wilds, including Eastern hellbenders and the federally threatened, state endangered American burying beetle. In addition to working with native Ohio wildlife species, Ms. Uhrig also oversees restoration efforts at The Wilds.
This event has limited capacity and first invitation to attend will be sent to KBC members. Event will be open to non-members if space allows. A recording will likely be available at a later date. Check here for updates. |
KBC MONTHLY PROGRAMS
Kirtland Bird Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month, September through June at 7:00 p.m. Each meeting Announcements precede the speaker program and a short business meeting follows it. There are opportunities to socialize and/or discuss bird-related topics of interest to club members and guests at the end of the meeting and sometimes prior to the start of the meeting.
Meetings are generally free and all are welcome (subject to limits on meeting facility capacity)!
During warmer months meeting are held in person. We meet via Zoom during wintery months and when public health conditions warrant it. All meeting announcements include location and will be updated as needed. We record as many of our meetings as possible and make them available on our website.
