First Stop - Shaker Lakes for the
Towndsend's Solitaire
Seen at 7:30 a.m.

| Before we
headed out to Killdeer Plains we stopped at Shaker Lakes
and all had the chance to see the Townsend's Solitaire at
7:30 a.m. The bird was quite active, seen he was being
harassed by a Robin. |

| Finally made it to our
destination. |
Searching for Lapland
Longspurs but
only found Horned Larks. |
 |
 |
| In the owl woods we
searched for Long-eared owls only to have Ed find... |
a Northern Saw-whet Owl. |
 |
 |
| But Ed still hoped for a
Long-eared. |
We checked out another
stand of pines. |
 |
 |
| But had no luck. Now
near dusk, we rode around hoping to see a Short-eared Owl.

Only to find one in a
tree that was scarred up by some horsemen. |
 |
 |
| Found some Pheasants and
Ed tried to get them up in the air for us. |
Drove home at sunset and
into much rain. |
 |
| Stopped for
dinner on the Ohio Turnpike. |
