Trip Pictures

After a quick stop at Medusa Marsh, we headed for the ferry and watched the sunset there. Many lines of cars were waiting. A northeasterly was blowing and had slowed things up by that time.

First stop on the island was dinner at The Village Pump where the perch is great! Saturday morning we headed out before sunrise in hopes of finding a few shorebirds, but the waves were too high.

We birded along Lincoln and... ... at the Himmelblau House B & B where we were treated to close up looks at two Cooper's Hawks, a Sharpy and a Bald Eagle.

After a wonderful warbler filled morning we had lunch outside at the cottage and birded the trees around us. After lunch we drove by the working quarry in hopes of seeing a Broad-winged Hawk but no luck there.
We birded along the South East shore at a friend's property and saw many warblers in good variety. Dave wanted to have his picture taken with the owl carved by John Lortz.

Karen and Pat enjoyed the sunset during our cocktail hour. And this wonderful warbler filled day ended.

The next morning, on the way to the North Pond State Nature Preserve, we found hundreds of Grackles feasting on acorn nuts in front of Estes School. The beginning of the North Pond trail was pretty quiet.

Bill and Ed checking out the sand dunes. Once we got on the boardwalk things livened up a bit.
We ran into Vic at the tower. He was doing the September Bird Census. Karin and Garnet looking up a Goldenrod in the North Quarry under the grooves.
Off on the ferry by 11:30 a.m. with no wait this time. It was a calmer ride back to Marblehead.
We had lunch at the Marblehead Light House.  On the way over to Pickerel Creek we stopped on Johnson's Island to check out the Confederate Cemetery.
It was an amazing place. Confederate Soldier at what was once a prison camp.
Pickerel Creek was our next stop. It was all a blaze with giant sunflowers.
And we found a few bottled gentian along with a few shorebird species. We finalized out list at Toft's Ice Cream Parlor.
Giant Sunflowers at Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area.
