Winter
Bird Atlasing
January,
2008
Twelve members of the Kirtland Bird Club took to the
back roads from Canton to Cambridge during two
Saturdays in January to collect data for Black Swamp
Bird Observatory’s Winter Bird Atlas. Twelve DeLorme
sectors were chosen in this area because they had
very little or no observations reported. The
weather was mild on January 12th when we
canvassed the most southern areas. We were treated
to dawn birdsong and pleased to see bluebirds in
abundance. January 26th was colder and
more gray but all three cars were treated to horned
larks and several views of raptors. Data was
reported on a total of 23 sectors.
The participants were: Terri Martincic, Virginia
Ehrbar, Delores Cole, Scott Van Volkenburg, Laura
Gooch, Julie West, Gary Neuman, Lou Gardella, Lori
Brumbaugh, Henry and Olivia Burton, and Lisa
