Nancy Klamm
June 25,
1911 – July 22, 2002
It is with sadness that we announce the death of Nancy Klamm, a
very dear friend and longtime supporter of The Kirtland Bird Club
and The Cleveland Bird Calendar, on Monday, July 22, 2002. There
will be a graveside memorial service at Lakewood Park Cemetery,
22025 Detroit Road, Rocky River, Ohio, on Tuesday, July 30, 2002,
at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Paula Maeder-Connor has requested that we
celebrate Nancy's life by sharing memories of her that morning.
Nancy, daughter of William and Grace Campbell was born at home in
Woodville, Pennsylvania, on June 25, 1911. She graduated from
Pennsylvania College for Women ( now Chatham College) in 1932 with
a major in chemistry and a minor in mathematics. While working as
a senior buyer in the chemistry department at Case Western Reserve
University, she met William A. Klamm, whom she married on
September 9, 1950, at the Old Stone Church in Cleveland Ohio.
Nancy belonged to and supported many organizations, including the
American Birding Association, Cleveland Audubon Society, Kirtland
Bird Club, Old Stone Church, Trinity Lutheran Church in Lakewood,
Chat Room in Lakewood, Lakewood Christian Service Center,
Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Western Cuyahoga Audubon
Society and Wilson Ornithological Society.
Nancy, with her husband, birded the Cleveland area with great
dedication and enthusiasm and traveled extensively. From 1959 to
1971 they were co-leaders of the spring bird walk at the Old
Trailside Museum at Mastick Woods in the Rocky River Reservation
of the Cleveland Metroparks. In addition, they were active
participants on two Christmas Bird counts, the Cleveland CBC from
1960 to 1996 and the Lakewood CBC. Their travels included trips to
Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Brazil, India, Peru, Churchill
Manitoba, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Nancy encouraged and supported many Kirtland Bird Club members in
cultivating their birding skills, and we are grateful to have
known her both as a fellow birder and dear friend. Please come and
celebrate her life next Tuesday morning. |
