Violet-green Swallow Study

Looking at Mono Lake from atop Mt. Dana, the second highest peak in Yosemite National Park, at 13,057 feet.  July, 2004.

 

 

The endangered Yosemite Toad can be found at high elevations near Mono Lake.  I took this photo of a toad hiding in the snow beneath a lodgepole pine at Glass Creek Meadow, June 2005.

Up to 70,000 Wilson's Phalaropes stage each year at Mono Lake during their fall migration to take advantage of the superabundant food sources that this salt lake provides.  June 2006.

Swallow research takes place in beautiful Lee Vining Canyon, with the Dana Plateau and Yosemite National Park serving as a backdrop.

Long-billed Curlews.  In the background is a grove of tufa, which are towers of calcium carbonate that form when the salty ingredients of Mono Lake mix with calcium from fresh water springs. June 2006.
