The Cleveland
Bird Calendar (CBC) is published quarterly by the Kirtland
Bird Club and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. It is
funded partly from KBC membership dues and mostly from our member's
generous donations (for donation information
member of the Kirtland Bird Club receives an annual subscription
of the The Cleveland Bird Calendar as a membership benefit.
The
Cleveland Bird Calendar was
founded in 1905 by Francis H. Herrick of Western Reserve
University and is one of the longest-running publications of its
kind. The purposes of the publication are to provide information
on the movements of birds through the Cleveland region
(Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit
counties), to monitor population densities of resident birds,
and to help in establishing what the patterns of vagrancy are
for species rarely encountered in the region.
All members are
encouraged to submit field reports, artwork, papers, and
photographs to the editor for consideration for publication in
the CBC. All reports to the CBC are archived at the Cleveland
Museum of Natural History.

Cleveland Bird Calendar Reporting Instructions
In the above
links you will find Excel and PDF format reporting forms. One
form is blank (1 page double sided) and one lists the species in
taxonomic order (4 pages double sided). If you send in written
reports make copies of one of these formats for your reporting.
If you are familiar with Excel you can use one of the Excel
formats and submit your report by email. If using the blank
reporting form, please make sure species names are listed in
current
taxonomic order.
Columns are
provided for reporting the earliest and latest date seen for
each species, the date the maximum number was seen, and location
information. In most cases this is the only information that
should be included in your report. Refer to past issues for
guidance or email Kevin Metcalf if you have a question about
what species to report. You can also refer to The Field Book
of the Birds of the Cleveland Region for date and location
occurrences. There is space at the end of the form to add any
species seen that are not on the main list. The editor is also
interested in receiving notes about unusual bird behavior,
nesting, etc.
The reporting area includes the following
counties only:
CUYAHOGA,
GEAUGA,
LAKE,
LORAIN,
MEDINA,
PORTAGE &
SUMMIT
